Past: Cape Girardeau Civil War Roundtable

The Cape Girardeau Civil War Roundtable will meet Sunday, July 21 at Hanover Lutheran Church. The guest speaker will be Denise Lincoln who will speak on "At Rest at Fairmount" biographical sketches of the U.S. Colored Trouo veterans buried at Cape Girardeau's Fairmount Cemetery. Each of the 17 veterans discussed in this presentation were born enslaved, enlisted when the opportunity opened for Black soldiers and served three years as federal soldier of the Union Army. Life stories as revealed in pension records and local newspapers present wide and ranging experiences before, during and after their military service to fight for their own freedom.
