Past: Punk Rock

Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre, Southeast Missouri State University River Campus

The trials and errors of high school will be depicted in “Punk Rock” presented at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus at 7:30 p.m. March 8-10 in the Wendy Kurka Rust Flexible Theatre.

Premiering in 2009 at the Lyric Hammersmith in London, “Punk Rock” is staged in a private school outside of Manchester, England, where a group of highly-articulate seventeen-year-olds flirt and posture their way through the day while preparing for their A-Level mock exams.

With hormones raging and minimal adult supervision, the students must prepare for their future—and survive the savagery of high school. Inspired by playwright Simon Stephens’ own experiences as a teacher, “Punk Rock” is an honest and unnerving chronicle of contemporary adolescence.
