Past: First Annual Jane Addams Lecture Series

The Department of Social Work and the Student Social Work Organization will host former U.S. Congressman Edolphus Towns, a social worker and community activist, as the speaker at the First Annual Jane Addams Lecture Series at Southeast Missouri State University on Wednesday, March 28.

A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 6 p.m. at the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center on Southeast’s River Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Towns is a social worker and 14-term veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives. He served as the lead sponsor for the Dorothy I. Height and Whitney M. Young, Jr. Social Work Reinvestment Act. As a lawmaker, he worked diligently to ensure a competent workforce prepared to meet the ever-increasing demand for social work services. As a social worker, Towns understands the importance of community organizing and the value of professional social workers.
