Cape River Heritage Museum

The Cape River Heritage Museum will hold its 2018 opening Thursday from noon to 4 p.m.

This is the museum’s 37th year of showcasing memorabilia from Cape Girardeau’s past. Exhibits feature river boats, The Girardeaus, large murals of Cape Rock, SEMO State University and Old Town Cape.

This season also features former Cape physicians & surgeons, father and son Paul and Phil Williams, historic portraits of Judge Robert and Jean Allen Wilson, Louis Houck, railroad entrepreneur; Willard Vandiver, who coined the Show Me State Slogan; Marie Oliver, designer of the Missouri State Flag, 4-Star Gen. Seth McKee, a tribute to the Cape Police and Fire Departments, and the Missouri Mule.

This is the 100th year of the end of World War I, so the museum has a special exhibit of both WWI and WWII which includes the American Legion Golden Troopers Drum & Bugle Corp of both eras and a Cape Municipal Band Concert in 1918! Special WWI Saturday morning Speaker Series events will occur throughout the season.

The museum is located at 538 Independence, and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.
