Past: “Natural Delights: The Explorative Pottery of Ellen Hones” at Catapult Creative House

Catapult Creative House

The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold their final spring season Artist of the Month exhibition titled “Natural Delights: The Explorative Pottery of Ellen Hones” featuring the work of Southeast Missouri State University artist Ellen Hones, with a reception scheduled for 5-9 p.m. June 1 on the second floor of Catapult Creative House, 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Inspired by the richness of the Ozarks, Hones marries form with function and creates ceramic vessels that reflect the subtle beauty of nature. This duality is mirrored in the juxtaposition of colors and textures that reflect an appreciation for the intimate interconnectivity of the environment. While Hones’ work speaks to the natural elements of her youth, it is the pleasantly incessant horizons which introduce the evermore interesting notion of time. Each rich brown strata encircles the object, a literal ring of earth that is simultaneously reminiscent of the multitude of epochs and fleeting moments that make people who they are.
