Past: Faulkner and García Márquez Conference

The Center for Faulkner Studies will host the Faulkner and García Márquez Conference Oct. 11-13 on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council, the conference will bring together more than 40 scholars from four countries and 18 states who will present their research on the two Nobel Prize-winning American authors, William Faulkner and Gabriel García Márquez.

The conference opens Thursday, Oct. 11, with a keynote address by Dr. Deborah Cohn, professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Indiana University. Cohn will present “Faulkner and García Márquez: Literary Innovators, Public Intellectuals, Cultural Ambassadors” at 5:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. This lecture is free and open to the public. Cohn’s lecture is geared towards a general audience.

The visiting scholars will present their work at panel sessions Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13
