Past: Crisp Museum Hosting ‘Winter in Watercolor’ Workshop

The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum is hosting a “Winter in Watercolor” workshop Jan. 3 from 1-4 p.m.

During this workshop, taught by Ellen Hahs, curator of education at the Museum, participants will explore the use of watercolor for both abstract and representative snowscape artworks. Understanding watercolor's transparent qualities and unique blending capabilities can produce an entirely different look from other mediums. A brush can be so much more than a brush. It can drop in color or wick out unwanted puddles or darkness. Gravity can also be used to move the suspended pigments. The addition of salt, alcohol, and plastic wrap change the result of the pigment on paper. A variety of artistic terms and an introduction to color theory will be covered, as well as the use of different pigment/water ratios, salt and alcohol droplets.

Hahs will help participants conceptualize these techniques through quick demonstrations.

A preregistration fee of $10 is due Jan. 2 for ages 15 and older only. Supplies are provided.
