Past: Confessions of a Serial Biographer
Cape Girardeau Public Library
What does it feel like to invite a stranger into your home and head for several years?
In a sense, that’s exactly what a biographer does. Carl Rollyson, a self-proclaimed “serial” biographer, has published biographies on a wide variety of notable folks, including writers such as William Faulkner and Sylvia Plath and celebs like Marilyn Monroe. In this presentation, he tells the inside story of how he became interested in his subjects and reveals some of the mechanics of the trade.
Other biographers have described their process but remained discrete, not wishing to offend their sources and supporters. Rollyson has forgone such caution.
