Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall

The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will present its annual “Symphony Sampler” concert, providing an informative and free preview to the upcoming 2019-2020 symphony season. The program will feature a light-hearted introduction to the symphony, performing a variety of brief selections from the upcoming season.

The program will feature several musical selections from the repertoire planned for the 2019-2020 season, including excerpts from Franz Schubert’s famous “Unfinished Symphony” and Sibelius’ “Karelia Suite.” Also on the program will be music by the English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams and a short excerpt from the popular “Star Wars Suite” by John Williams. The orchestra will also perform the opening sections from the beautiful “Violin Concerto” by Tchaikovsky, featuring Dr. Sophia Han, faculty member at Southeast, as violin soloist.

The program will also include a brief demonstration of the different sections of the orchestra to show how all the various instruments create the amazing range of sounds and expression found in the symphony orchestra. For more information, please contact the Department of Music at (573) 651-2141.
