Past: Crisp Museum Hosting ‘Little Feather Gourd Basket’ Workshops

Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum

The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus is hosting “Little Feather Gourd Basket” workshops Oct. 12 at 1 and 2:30 p.m.

This event is free for ages 5-10, and is open to the public. Supplies will be provided. A preregistration fee of $5 is due by Oct. 5.

During the workshop, local artist Ruth Andre will demonstrate how gourds are cleaned, cut, predrilled and have a beeswax finish, and discuss the gourd’s lifecycle. Participants will then learn how to create a stitching pattern with artificial sinew or waxed thread to secure rolled paper around the gourd’s top edge from start to finish.
