Past: Southeast's Catapult Creative House Presents 'The After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture' Series

Catapult Creative House

The After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture series opens this year on Oct. 10 with this semester’s topic, “Keeping it Close to Home: A Global Perspective.”

The event, scheduled for 7 p.m. at Catapult Creative House, will feature St. Louis-based artist and designer Sammi Allen. Allen is a Southeast Missouri State University alumna, graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design and a minor in marketing management.

In her BFA exhibition show, “Connecting Our Roots,” Allen did extensive research on her heritage to create an interactive history museum based on her family heirlooms. In her presentation, “It’s All Relative,” Allen will expand on her earlier research by discussing how the universal characteristics and experiences of previous generations can be applicable to a 21st century audience.

This semester’s topic, “Keeping it Close to Home: A Global Perspective,” reminds participants that regardless of where they live or what they do, they carry with them their culture, traditions and memories of home. These inspire them and shape who they are, whether they are aware of it or not. This series of lectures/presentations will address how creatives channel their definition of home into their work.

Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art students’ studios upstairs, as well as the Catapult Creative Shoppe, which features student work and local business products.
