Historical Highway Marker Unvealing

The 1939 Sharecropper Highway Demonstration recognized as a significant part of Missouri’s History. The Whitfield Historical Foundation honor the many Black and White Sharecroppers who were an important and educational part of local history.

The Owen Whitfield/Thad Snow dedication memorial marker commemorates the event to be held on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, at 11 a.m., on highway 60 – (just east of Charleston between the Country Club and Snow’s Corner) on the land donated by Debbie Coarse, Lee Love and Kathy Delaney-Haas - the granddaughters of Thad Snow.

This re-dedication is to replace the original plaque installed September 27th, 2014, that was stolen.

Guest Speaker: Professor Ted Green, Historian and Professor at Webster University St Louis.

Other Speakers will include an “I was there” Sharecropper, (Ms. Mary Sikes) Owen Terry – grandson of Owen Whitfield and others from all walks of life.
