Past: 14th Annual Fault Line Film Festival

Southeast Missouri State University-Rose Theatre (Grauel)

Two active, award-winning filmmakers of color will be the presenters at the 14th Annual Fault Line Film Festival on March 21st and 22nd at Southeast Missouri State University.

Khalid Abdulqaadir and Corey McCartney will offer two master classes open to all SEMO students. The first will be “Directing the Scene” 10–11:15 a.m., Thursday, March 21 in Rose Theatre. The master class will involve Abdulqaadir and McCartney coaching students on how to get the best results out of a film crew and cast. The second master class will be “The Business of Independent Film,” 2–3:15 p.m, Thursday, March 21 in Rose Theatre. This session will focus on how Abdulqaadir and McCartney have managed to produce high-quality work on small budgets right here in Missouri.

The master classes lead up to two nights of free screenings of the best-of-the-best in submissions to this year’s Fault Line competition. Local’s Night will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21st in Rose Theatre, and will showcase the best works by Southeast students this year.

The Gala and Awards Ceremony, starting at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22 in Rose Theatre, will feature this year’s Fault Line Film Festival award winners. The festival will screen student short films in the categories of drama, comedy, mystery/suspense, animation, alternative, long form, high school and documentary. Screenings are followed by the tremendously popular “strange door prizes” for all attendees, and a gathering for filmmakers and crews at Ebb & Flow Fermentations.

Khalid Abdulqaadir is an honorably served veteran of the United States Navy. He is currently a doctoral student at Saint Louis University. As a writer, Abdulqaadir obtained a professional screenwriter certificate from the University of California, Los Angeles; graduated from the Writers Guild Foundation’s Veteran Writing Project, and achieved certification as a screenplay analyst from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. As an essayist, he's published in the New York Times and Boston Globe.

Corey McCartney has more than 10 years of experience as a producer and actor. He got his start in 2010 producing music videos and later transitioned into producing short films, trailers and proof of concepts. A University of Missouri graduate, McCartney has studied at the Peter Wise Actors studio, as well as the Sanford Meisner Center in North Hollywood, California.
