Past: Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society Meeting

For the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society’s March meeting, Marybeth Niederkorn, director of the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center and Genealogical Society member, will give a program on Shady Grove, an African-American cemetery near Dutchtown. She is working on an updated and revised edition of Dark Woods and Periwinkle: A glance back at Shady Grove. The Society will publish the book, updated from the 1998 version co-edited by Diana Steele-Bryant and Sharon Sanders, later this year. Niederkorn will give some history on Shady Grove and review new information the book will include, such as a cemetery survey done in 2012 and the cemetery’s 2022 National Register of Historic Places listing.
