Past: Robert W. Hamblin Lecture "The Riderless Horse: How Shakespeare Films Begin"

On April 15 at 7:30 pm, Southeast Missouri State University presents the Robert W. Hamblin Lecture, “The Riderless Horse: How Shakespeare Films Begin,” given by Dr. Samuel Crowl, a distinguished Trustee Professor of English at Ohio University. The lecture will focus on the opening sequences of several Shakespearean film adaptions such as Olivier’s Henry V, Taymor’s The Tempest, and Branagh’ s Much Ado About Nothing featuring clips from each. Dr. Crowl has lectured on Shakespeare and film at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C., the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, the New Globe Theatre in London, the Columbia University Shakespeare seminar, and colleges and universities around the United States and abroad. He is the author of several books which include Shakespeare Observed, Shakespeare at the Cineplex, The Films of Kenneth Branagh, and Shakespeare and Film: A Norton Guide. He has just published his most recent book Screen Adaptations: Hamlet in the Arden Shakespeare series for the Bloomsbury Press in London. The lecture will take place in Ballroom A of the University Center. The event is free and open to the public.
