Past: The Pierce Bros. Sculpture Exhibit at the Isle Casino

Isle Casino Cape Girardeau

The Isle Casino Cape Girardeau, will host a reception for Cape Girardeau natives and brothers, Ben and Nathan Pierce. The pair will showcase their sculptural artwork during a month-long exhibit coordinated by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, and sponsored by the Isle Casino Cape Girardeau.

Ten pieces by the artists will be on display throughout the Casino lobby, Rotunda, and in Keller’s at the Isle. Artwork will include new pieces, as well as older selections from the artist’s personal collections.

Ben Pierce served 4 years in the military before attending and graduating from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. Pierce builds work that represents experiences or feelings that are universally identifiable. The Isle Casino exhibit will feature new pieces as part of Pierce’s series “Balance”. He states, “In this series I try to focus on form and material more than ever. The center oculus captures space and creates a window for the viewer to look through.” Pierce further explains, “We live in a society that has forgotten how to enjoy our surroundings…[w]ith our faces always in a laptop or smart phone. My hope for this work is to capture someone’s attention long enough…to see something unexpected.“

Nathan Pierce is also a sculptor currently based out of Cape Girardeau, MO. He specializes in large-scale pieces that use a variety of media but primarily include wood and metal. Pierce’s public art pieces have been featured in exhibits across the nation and, later in April, his work will be included in the 2015 Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit on Broadway. Pieces on display at the Isle Casino exhibit include works from Pierce’s past and present creative experience. An assortment of woodcarvings and sculptures will be presented from Pierce’s past series that was inspired by natural resources found in Southeast Missouri, and the Mississippi River. Additional sculptures will be displayed from Pierce’s current collection entitled Loss of Signal, which focuses on the issue of communication in today’s society.

Food and refreshments for the opening reception will generously be provided by the Isle Casino, Cape Girardeau.
