"New to Pioneer Drama Service, this adaptation of the classic fairy tale remains largely true to the original version, embellished with 1980s musical elements of soft rock, foot-stomping gospel, and blues. Filled with both broad comedy and drama, this small-cast version of the timeless tale avoids the Disney flourishes like talking furniture and arrogant antagonists and focuses instead on the close relationships between Beauty and her father, her sisters, and, of course, the Beast himself. Through their humbling journey, Beauty’s family learns to value more than material wealth. And by remaining kind, caring, and compassionate, Beauty discovers that true love goes beyond physical appearance and monstrous curses. Seeing these relationships grow and develop through dialogue and song makes the moral of this fable even more relatable and meaningful!"
