This Friday, head to downtown Cape Girardeau to engage in the arts! Participating locations will be open for First Friday with the arts from 5-9pm unless otherwise stated.

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 North Main Street

The Arts Council invites you to attend a reception for the 29th Annual Eighth Congressional District High School Art Competition, hosted by Jason Smith, Congressman of the Eighth Congressional District. This much-loved exhibit, which features visual art pieces by high school-aged students living within the Eighth Congressional District in Missouri, will be on display until May 30.

The visual Arts Cooperative will also feature new works in the Jean A. Chapman Gallery and in their mini-display.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio needs to be closed the "First Friday in May". But wants all to know that a "Monotype Printmaking" workshop will be offered June 8, 10, 15 & 17 from 1-4pm. For more info contact Judy Barks-Westrich.

Gallery of Inspiration

The Gallery of Inspiration has a new display in the front window with artwork by Greg Ridenour, Kelly Nigro, and new member artist, Stephen Reed. They will be welcoming home artist Sherry Wilhelm, who will be displaying he works in the months to come. New, talented members are coming in left and right working with a variety of media. Please stop by to meet and greet the artists!

Painted Wren Art Gallery

The Painted Wren Art Gallery will be open noon to 9 p.m. for First Friday, featuring The Deadly Duo (authors Bill & Sharon Hopkins). Paint For a Cause is an ongoing feature of First Friday – anyone who enters the gallery can give a $1 donation for 1 minute of painting. All money raised will go to the Safe House for Women. Also available will be BARBARON minis, paintings, photographs, jewelry, note cards, goat milk soaps & lotions, and other items and visit with the artists.

WESTRAY Studio

Photography by Dr. Joel Ray and drawings by Jeanie Eddleman will be on display. New drawings and sandstone coasters are available. We can also personalize items with YOUR favorite photos. Stop by and check out our wide assortment of Cape County area memorabilia.

Renaissance, 139 North Main Street

Renaissance will be featuring the original fine art paintings and hand-crafted art pieces of artist and owner, Sherry Yaeger.

Catapult: Creative House, 612 Broadway Street

Catapult will be hosting their Soft Opening this First Friday! This new commercial learning laboratory cultivates creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship by connecting interdisciplinary teams of students, faculty, and practioners in a rich array of courses, collaborative projects and competitions. The soft opening will feature active printing on a Vandercook letterpress, artwork by Hannah Sanders, live music performed by Daniel Atwood, and a coffee tasting in the beverage bar area. Students will also be painting, sewing, greeting, and helping to explain Catapult through tours and more!

Spring BFA Graduating Seniors Exhibition, Part I. Closing Reception from 5 – 7 pm.

The Rosemary Berkel & Harry L. Crisp Museum, 518 S. Fountain Street

The Biennial Faculty Exhibition features a sampling of media encompassing ceramics, paintings, drawings, processes of printmaking, sculpture and digital technology. Opening Reception from 4 – 8 pm.

Friends of the Arts

Take the opportunity to view selected pieces of a collection of outdoor photography by Larry Braun. Exhibition pieces will change from time to time. Exhibit is free and open to the public when the The Bar Restaurant Area is open.

Cup ‘n’ Cork is hosting a fundraiser for the Prodigy Leadership Academy, with 10% of all sales donated to the Academy. Artwork created by the students will be on display and available for sale as they also play live music. A wine tasting will be available.

Yoga East will be featuring the artwork of David Fielding for the months of May & June. David is a Fine Art Instructor/Gallery Director at Three Rivers College. David studied painting at Kansas City Art Institute and now lives in Poplar Bluff. David will be showing works from a series of small paintings based loosely on the Tantric paintings from Rajasthan, India. The reception will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
