This Friday, June 5th, head to downtown Cape Girardeau with your furry friends to engage in the arts! Participating locations will be open for First Friday with the Arts from 5-9 pm unless otherwise stated. Pet friendly locations are notated below with “**” and pet-pit-stops will be available throughout the downtown.

Stamp Cards will be available at participating locations. Receive 6 stamps to be eligible for an offer by Mississippi Mutts: buy one doggie biscuit, get one FREE!

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 North Main Street

The Arts Council invites you to attend a reception for Wild Things, a national juried exhibition with an animal theme. The awards for the exhibition will be announced during a 6:00 pm ceremony.

The exhibition will feature artwork from 31 artists working in 14 states, including New Jersey, Maine, and California. The show encompasses a variety of media including ceramics, painting, sculpture, and photography. 10% of sales from the exhibition will benefit a local animal agency.

Artwork was selected by the juror, Ruth Ann Reese, a studio artist living in St Louis, MO and the founder of the Reese Gallery, where she curates exhibitions of other emerging and mid-career artists.

Exhibition sponsors include: Busch Pet Products & Care, The Bank of Missouri, Capaha Bank, Elite Travel and Cruises Inc., LaCroix Pet Hospital, Petco, and Skyview Animal Clinic.

The visual Arts Cooperative will also feature new works in the Jean A. Chapman Gallery and in their mini-display.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio will be showcasing work by Guest Artists - Sheila Bohannon, Dodi Conrad, Jerre Hall, Carolyn Hardaway, Diane Jamieson, Ann Milam, Glenda Mueller & Ayako Nagasaki. Their "Abstract Florals" were created in resent acrylic workshops! Work by Judy Barks-Westrich will also be on featured. Studio will be open from noon to 9pm. *Water provided for thirsty pets!

Artisan Gifts, 821 A Broadway Street

Artisan Gifts features artisan made jewelry, ornaments, pottery and a wide variety of fine crafts. Porcelain Jewelry by Linda Bohnsack will be on display. For more information, call 270-2931.

Abram is an artist extraordinaire! He is also a loveable Rottweiler with a mission. Stop by to see a display of his work.

EPIC Pals Information Booth & Demonstration

EPIC Pals is a program for local young people, relying on the human animal bond to create caring and confident kids. By partnering youth with a structured dog training component, the curriculum fosters empathy and empowers young people will skills needed to effectively communicate and manage emotions.

Lazy L. Safari Park Show & Tell

Lazy L. Safari Park is a Walk-Thru Zoo with over 50 species of exotic animals. During First Friday with the Arts, you can learn about some of these by going to their Show & Tell at Bilderbach’s Art Plaza.

DazSpell Creations**

From Herbal Teas to Bath Bombs, Lotions, Balms & Salves, DazSpell Creations offers locally made, hand-crafted products created with organic and natural ingredients. Also available Tea Infusers, Spirit Dolls, Dream Catchers, Wall Art, Doggie Delights, and Local Artisans. DazSpell will be prepared for doggy-shoppers with custom handkerchiefs, dog-clothes, and treats available!

Gallery of Inspiration**

Justin Stott, a new member of the Gallery of Inspiration, will be exhibiting acrylic paintings that explore religious themes. To celebrate Pets Night Out, the gallery will be pet-friendly and will host Monica Honey, of Paw & Order dog obedience school located in Olive Branch.

Painted Wren Art Gallery

In addition to the Painted Wren Art Gallery’s variety of artwork, photography, and jewelry created by Southeast Missouri artists – owner Aaron Horrell will be transforming guests into animals. Stop by to get your face painted! The “Paint for a Cause” painting of the month is benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

WESTRAY Studio

Photography by Dr. Joel Ray and drawings by Jeanie Eddleman will be on display. New drawings and sandstone coasters are available. We can also personalize items with YOUR favorite photos. Stop by and check out our wide assortment of Cape County area memorabilia.

BLack Door Gallery, 124 South Spanish Street

The BLack Door gallery will be showcasing the artwork of Cape Central High School Students.

Catapult: Creative House, 612 Broadway Street

Stop by Catapult to celebrate the summer and the Operations Manager’s birthday with cake! Outside will be a Pet Pit Stop with water, hankies, and treats.

Kram PHOTOGRAPHY will be hosting a Pet Photobooth to catch your pet at their best! Each session will be $7.

Start your Pets Night Out with a Dog Costume Contest at Mississippi Mutts! Refreshments will be available for dogs AND humans! The contest will take place from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, with awards announced at 6:30 pm at the Arts Council.

Annie Laurie’s Antiques**, 536 Broadway Street

Stop by and meet Lauren Bishop at Annie Laurie’s to give your pets a little extra attention with Pet Caricatures. For $5, you can receive a 8x10 black ink drawing sure to capture your best friend’s unique personality! Annie Laurie’s will also have a raffle for Wrapsit.

Come in and experience the ever-changing kaleidoscope of fun gifts, antiques and collectibles.

Cup ‘n’ Cork**, 11 South Spanish Street

Cup ‘n’ Cork will be hosting an adoption event for the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri and featuring the artwork of Caitlyn Kennedy. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Caitlyn is currently working towards her BFA in Ceramics at Southeast Missouri State University. She has taken an active role in the arts community, exemplified in her role as President of the Southeast Art Guild. Along with her ceramics, she will be showing paintings and illustrations.

Lattitudes, LLC**, 137 North Main Street

During First Friday, Lattitudes will be featuring the artwork of Ben Lechnir. Lechnir creates beautiful pieces by printing photographs onto woodblocks. Additionally, Lattitudes always has hand-created and fair trade crafts, jewelry, food, and gifts.

Minglewood Brewery, 121 Broadway Street

During a night celebrating fine craft, add a craft beer to the menu! Minglewood Brewery is one of the new Friends of the Arts in downtown Cape Girardeau. Stop by and welcome them to First Fridays!

On Cue Performing Arts Studio**, 20 N. Main Street

On Cue will be having their Grand Opening this June! Their faculty will be teaching children and adults in Dance, Theater, Vocal, and Music classes. During First Fridays, they will be hosting Friday Night Dance Parties: join the fun and try something new!

Let your doggies take a break outside at The Tangled Yarn while you head in to see a selection of yarns, needles, hookies, and accessories. Pet coloring pages will be available for kids!

Yearning 4 Yarn will be hosting a fundraiser for Mac’s Mission, stop by and meet Mac and the Mac Pack and help support his rock star work! They will also have a huge unveiling of a big surprise!

Yoga East, 827 Broadway Street

Yoga East will be featuring the artwork of David Fielding for the months of May & June. David is a Fine Art Instructor/Gallery Director at Three Rivers College. David studied painting at Kansas City Art Institute and now lives in Poplar Bluff. David will be showing works from a series of small paintings based loosely on the Tantric paintings from Rajasthan, India. The reception will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
