First Friday with the Arts

This Friday, August 7th, beat the heat in downtown Cape Girardeau by enjoying the arts! Participating locations listed below will be open for the First Friday with the Arts evening from 5-9 pm unless otherwise stated.

GALLERIES

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 North Main Street

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is proud to host an exhibit of artwork completed by students of the Summer Art Academy held at Southeast Missouri State University. Students range in age from 6 to adult, and their artwork incorporates many different media, techniques, and experiences. Over 120 students participated in the workshops this summer, and their artwork will be displayed for the month of August.

The visual Arts Cooperative will also feature new works in the Jean A. Chapman Gallery and in their mini-display. Window exhibitors for August are Brenda Seyer and Sarah Cochrane.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio will be featuring new paintings by Judy Barks-Westrich. Studio will be open from 11 to 9pm. Also scheduled a beginning "Acrylic Workshop" August 17, 18, 24 & 25 from 10am-1pm. For more info contact Judy - just a few spaces left!

Artisan Gifts, 821 A Broadway Street

Artisan Gifts features artisan made jewelry, ornaments, pottery and a wide variety of fine crafts. Porcelain Jewelry by Linda Bohnsack will be on display. For more information, call 270-2931.

DazSpell Creations

From Herbal Teas to Bath Bombs, Lotions, Balms & Salves, DazSpell Creations offers locally made, hand-crafted products created with organic and natural ingredients. Also available Tea Infusers, Spirit Dolls, Dream Catchers, Doggie Delights, Wall Art, and Local Artisans.

DazSpell will be re-opening in the front gallery in Bilderbach Art Plaza on Wednesday, August 5th! They are open Tues. – Sat. from 11am – 5pm and on First Fridays from 11am – 9pm.

Gallery of Inspiration

Gallery of Inspiration will feature Artist Kelly Nigro during First Friday With The Arts. Kelly is an acrylic artist who will tell you in her own words, "I am legally blind and color blind." She uses bold strokes and vivid colors in a lot of her paintings. Kelly's whimsical paintings almost always have a story to tell, along with the sculpty creatures/objects she adds to her paintings which bring them to life. Drop in and meet Kelly at the Gallery of Inspiration. Who knows you just might want to add one of Kelly's paintings to your children's area or to your style of decor!

Painted Wren Art Gallery

$1 donation to St. Jude Children Cancer Research Hospital will get any visitor to Painted Wren Art Gallery one minute of painting time on the motorcycle painting. 99 people have painted on it so far.

WESTRAY Studio

Photography by Dr. Joel Ray and drawings by Jeanie Eddleman will be on display. New drawings and sandstone coasters are available. We can also personalize items with YOUR favorite photos. Stop by and check out our wide assortment of Cape County area memorabilia.

BLack Door Gallery, 124 South Spanish Street

The BLack Door gallery is hosting Feminine Perspective8. Women artists will be exhibiting their art the months of July and August, featuring a variety of mediums as diverse as the artists. From granite, oil, acrylic, photography, printmaking to sculpture.

Stop by and experience the art, style, living world of artist and owner, Sherry Yaeger. Many of Sherry's new works are inspired by the Missouri countryside such as her paintings of the Mississippi River. Many other works are faith-based and inspirational that tell a story in layers. The contest is for artists to create a design incorporating the Minglewood Brewery logo onto their Dumbwaiter door (materials provided). On Cue Performing Arts Studio, 20 N. Main Street

Visit On Cue for a Friday Night Dance Party: join the fun and try something new! Each evening begins at 7:30 pm with a 45-minute lesson, followed until 10:30 pm by great dance music in swing, salsa, ballroom, Latin, and more! $10 per person.
