Past: Missouri Archaeological Society to Hold Meeting

Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks Room

This event is free and open to the public.

Join the Society as we hold our annual Fall Symposium on Saturday, September 19. The 2015 theme is The Trail of Tears in Missouri. The Symposium will be in the UC Redhawks Room at Southeast Missouri State University and will feature morning presentations by Neal Lopinot, William MacNeill, Troy Poteete, Kayeleigh Sharp, Mark Wagner, Rusty Weisman, and Deloris Gray Wood about the Trail of Tears. Light refreshments will be served. Free parking will be provided by SEMO.

The presentations will be followed by a catered lunch picnic at nearby Trail of Tears State Park. The menu will be fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, green salad, coffee or tea, and dessert for $12. Preregistration for those who wish to join us for the picnic is required.

After lunch, Symposium attendees are invited for a tour and presentation at the park by Denise Dowling.

This meeting provides a forum for the exchange of information between avocational and professional archaeologists and is vital in helping the Society promote: (1) the investigation, preservation, and interpretation of prehistoric and historic remains in Missouri, (2) a constructive attitude toward these remains, and (3) cooperation between avocational and professional archaeologists.

Established in 1935, the MAS is a nonprofit organization of avocational and professional archaeologists who are interested in the prehistory and history of Missouri and who support the purposes of the Society. For more information on the Symposium or Society membership, contact the Missouri Archaeological Society, (417) 836-3773 or mas@missouristate.edu.

An R.s.v.p. is required for lunch and requested for attendance at the Symposium.
