GALLERIES:

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 North Main Street

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host a reception for members who participated in the Third Annual Members Exhibit. The show will be on display until September 26 and features exhibits in both the Lorimier Gallery and Gallery 100.

This year sixty talented artists brought in their artwork, including paintings, pastel drawings, mixed media, and photographic pieces, as well as several three-dimensional works. Artists of all skill levels and experience were invited to submit their works for display.

This year’s exhibit will feature three cash awards to be named during the reception. Juror Angela Walleman, Vice President of Best of Missouri Hands, will select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award winners. Celebrations Restaurant and Bar will be providing reception catering and beverages.

The Visual Arts Cooperative will also feature new works in the Jean A. Chapman Gallery and in their mini-display. Window exhibitors for September are Marilyn Schwaninger and Marty Riley.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio will be featuring new paintings by Judy Barks-Westrich. Studio will be open from 11 to 9pm. If anyone is interested in Painting (Acrylic or Watercolor) and/or Monotype Printmaking Workshops this fall, contact Judy.

Gallery of Inspiration

Sue Floyd will be our Featured Photographer of The Month for First Friday With The Arts. Sue likes to get out in the woods and explore with her cameras. She also enjoys photographing historic sites. She has traveled across the United States just to get those special scenery shots. Sue is one of the original members of the Gallery of Inspiration. She is a great access to the Gallery of Inspiration. Come in and let Sue walk you through her journeys. Kelly and friends are also presenting ''SHARK WEEK AND OTHER SEA CREATURES''. These are PINATA'S which 50% of proceeds will go to support a local charity.

Painted Wren Art Gallery

$1 donation to St. Jude Children Cancer Research Hospital will get any visitor to Painted Wren Art Gallery one minute of painting time on the motorcycle painting.

WESTRAY Studio

A Song from the Field. The Blues originated in the Mississippi Delta region, in the cotton fields, in the churches and resonated through the very soul of the artist blessed with the expressive talent to interpret it. This exhibition is a product of a journey taken through the Delta both physically and spiritually by William Burton Jr. and Robert A. Ketchens to rediscover the Blues. Reception from 4 – 8 pm.

Transition Spaces: An exhibition space devoted to the work of artists within 150 miles of Cape Girardeau. From Sept. 1 – Oct. 25, artwork by Nathan Pierce will be on display.

RENAISSANCE, 139 North Main Street

Stop by and experience the art, style, living world of artist and owner, Sherry Yaeger. Many of Sherry's new works are inspired by the Missouri countryside such as her paintings of the Mississippi River. Many other works are faith-based and inspirational that tell a story in layers. Renaissance will be open from 10-8pm.

River Campus Art Gallery, 518 South Fountain Street, Seminary Rm 106

Coded Vernaculars. This exhibition brings together two artists whose artwork breaks traditional boundaries. Todd Reed is interested in optical phenomena with the potential to visually confuse the viewer, and Sean Hottois employs typography, 2D design, light, motion, sound, code, sensors and 3D printed objects to create interactive experiences. Artist Talk: 4 – 5 pm; Opening Reception from 5 – 7 pm.

The Wright Group will be displaying the show “The Three of Us.” This exhibition is collaboration between three artists: Laura Anderson, Andrew Moore and Barefoot Leon. This mixed media show will include abstract paintings along with driftwood and barbed wire elements. The opening will be from 5 – 8 pm and there will be refreshments.

Yoga East Healing Arts Studio presents Bookmarks, works in various media by Kelly Hughes as part of First Friday series from 6-8 pm. Bookmarks will display several of Hughes’s works. She calls them “markers of understanding that have been brought to form in a variety of media, including ink, pencil, chalk/charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media.”
