Past: Compassion and Choices Informational Meeting

Compassion and Choices (C&C) will hold an informational meeting, Monday, October 12th from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm in the Penzel Conference Room of the Cape Girardeau Library.

Compassion & Choices is the leading nonprofit organization working to improve care and expand choices at the end of life, including a patient’s option to refuse unwanted medical treatment. C&C has been instrumental in helping pass legislation for death with dignity laws in several states including Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Montana and Vermont. The law has passed the legislature in California and is awaiting the governor’s signature.

Topics of discussion at the October 12th meeting will be the MO Advanced Health Care Directive as well as several bills that relate to the death with dignity cause including HB307 MO Death with Dignity, the Care Planning Act (which currently has 6 bipartisan cosponsors), and the Patient Self Determination Act.
