Past: Purple Martins Need Our Help

Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center

Purple martins have become totally dependent on human-provided housing. For this species to sustain its population, they need our help. John Miller, a volunteer with the Purple Martin Conservation Association, will share the history of the bond between martins and humans, the best housing and placement, steps to assure a colony returns each year and grows, and new information about migration. Miller manages the colonies of purple martins at Forest Park and the Missouri Botanical Garden in St Louis. The program will include photos by David Stonner, photographer for MDC. Reservations beginning March 1, call (573) 290-5566 or www.mdc.mo.gov/node/297
