The galleries and businesses will have plenty to entertain, from talented visual artists to live performances. Plus, mark your calendars for Pets Night Out - our pet friendly art walk during the next First Friday with the Arts on June 3rd!

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 North Main Street

The 30th Annual 8th Congressional District High School Art Competition showcases outstanding artwork by high-school students in Missouri's eighth congressional district. The winner will receive a grand prize and two flight tickets to attend the Congressional High School Art Competition reception in Washington, DC. The overall winner will be awarded the Artistic Honors Scholarship to attend Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia.

New works by the Visual Arts Cooperative on display in the Jean Chapman Gallery. Window exhibitors for May include Visual Arts Cooperative artists Thomas Shaner and Robert C. Hale.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio will be showcasing work by Judy Barks-Westrich. The studio will be open until 8:30pm.

Gallery of Inspiration

For May's First Friday Gallery of Inspiration will be having their Annual Silent Auction to raise funds for needed ART SUPPLIES. There will be of neat items to bid on so the public will not want to miss this one, so please come out and support Gallery of Inspiration. Silent Auction from 6:00 - 9:00 pm with finger foods, refreshments and live music.

WESTRAY Studio

Photography by Dr. Joel Ray and drawings by Jeanie Eddleman will be on display. New drawings and sandstone coasters are available. We can also personalize items with YOUR favorite photos. Stop by and check out our wide assortment of Cape County area memorabilia. New items: 15 oz. mugs available and can be personalized, and a new book by Jeanie... "Perry County--Reflections of the Past."

Catapult: Creative House, 612 Broadway Street

The Gallery: Artist/maker Bret Peters from Dos Vita Designs will be exhibiting his “Girardot Series,” a collection of handmade custom furniture. Each piece is hand crafted from steel, walnut lumber, and leather based on the idea of building quality furniture that will stand the test of time, while showcasing locally sourced, raw materials used in the process.

The Catapult Creative House Student Studios will hold its May exhibition, titled Fritos: The Collapse of Abstraction. The exhibition will feature the work of eleven Southeast Missouri State University Art Department student artists and will open the First Friday in May. Through object and idea the exhibition creates a dialog investigating the confluence of life and abstraction. The exhibition will feature artists Terry Davis and Lauren Mann.

The Crisp Museum, 518 South Fountain Street

An exhibition of paintings by Daven Anderson portraying the diversity of life living on or near our rivers and bays as well as the industry that depends on our navigable waters. Depicted are waterway users and inhabitants, shipping and barging scenes, urban and industrial landscapes and waterway wildlife. Opening Reception: May 6, 4 – 8 pm. Artist Talk: May 5, 6 pm.

Transition Spaces 16.2 – Featuring photographer Larry Braun, with an Artist Talk at 6:00 pm.

Galerie 109, 109 North Main Street

Join Galerie 109 for their Architects as Artists series featuring Montana-based architect Gene Trotter. This unique showing of vintage art features landscapes, experiments in cubism and still life, as well as mid-century architectural renderings of homes and buildings. His work dates from the 1930’s and will be available for purchase!

Free Spirit Studio, 605 Broadway Street

Free Spirit Studio is happy to announce a new artist has joined us, Chris Hrabik of Apple Creek Metal Works. To see more about Chris, go to www.applecreekmetalworks.com. In honor of Cinco de Mayo we will be serving a few traditional favorites. Along with the great Art and food we will be hosting our musical guest, Cyrena Rosati. Another fabulous night at the Indie House!

River Campus Art Gallery, 518 South Fountain Street, Seminary Rm 106

The River Campus Art Gallery will feature a BFA Graduating Seniors Exhibition from 5 – 7 pm.

While you are at the River Campus, please stop by the Dobbins Center Gallery to view “Close Encounters,” an exhibition of student work exploring optical color mixing on display May 5 – 11. A reception will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 2-3 pm.

Firkin Friday - A Firkin is a small cask and a unit of measurement. Roughly a 9 gallon keg. Also called a real ale because it is naturally carbonated in the serving container. A firkin gives us the opportunity to take a great beer and add additional ingredients creating unique flavors and aromas.
