Past: GRAND OPENING: Arts Council of Southeast Missouri

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is excited to announce that they will commemorate their move into a new, permanent location at 16 N. Spanish Street in Downtown Cape Girardeau with a Grand Opening celebration on Friday, September 2 from 4:30–9 p.m.

Grand Opening festivities will include a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m, wine and hors d’oeuvres, live music, a champagne toast at 6:30 p.m, special prizes and a fun interactive community project.

The Arts Council’s Annual Members Exhibit will also open on Friday, September 2 and will showcase the work of Arts Council members. Julia Thompson, director of the City of Cape Girardeau’s Parks and Recreation Department, will serve as this year’s juror. Award announcements will be made at 6 p.m, prior to the champagne toast.

The move follows a six-month renovation of the 6,000 square foot facility that formerly housed the Stev-Mark Gallery. Details such as the original concrete floors and a sliding freight door were retained by the Arts Council and bring warmth and vibrancy to the space.

In addition to the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri’s gallery and workshop spaces, the Visual Arts Cooperative also has a gallery at the new location displaying artwork from their members. On Cue Performing Arts Studio is also partnering with the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri at the new building through a long-term lease agreement to provide further access to the performing arts in Southeast Missouri.
