First Friday with the Arts

Mark your calendars for a ghoulish good time during this October’s First Friday with the Arts. Join local art galleries and downtown merchants for a “Trick-Art-Treat” on October 7th from 5:00 – 9:00 pm.

Kick off your Halloween month with special “Trick-Art-Treat” events including a Hayride down Broadway Street, a Costume Contest, Photo-BOO-th, Spooky Storytelling, a Hayride on Broadway, Live Music, Face-painting, and Trick-or-Treating.

Bring your Stamp Card with 7 stamps from participating locations to receive either a FREE fall or pumpkin beer from the Broadway Biergarten (818 Broadway St.) OR FREE chips and salsa with the purchase of a drink and entrée from Burrito-Ville (913 Broadway Street).

• Hayride on Broadway - Sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department with stops at Main Street and Broadway, Frederick Street and Broadway, and Pacific and Broadway.

Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 16 North Spanish Street

“Dark Wonders,” a creatures exhibition by artists Justin Henry Miller & Michael Baird will be on display. New works by the Visual Arts Cooperative on display, with featured window exhibitors Randall Hays and Annie Schuchart.

Artisan Gifts, 821A Broadway Street

Artisan Gifts features artisan made jewelry, ornaments, pottery and a wide variety of fine crafts. Porcelain Jewelry by Linda Bohnsack will be on display. For more information, call 270-2931.

The Artist Studio, 38 A North Main Street

The Artist Studio will be showcasing WATERCOLORS & ACRYLICS by guest artists from recent workshops, as well as, new work by Judy Barks-Westrich. The studio will have "Hershey Chocolates" as treats for visitors. Open till 8:30pm.

Bilderbach’s Art Plaza, 5 North Main Street

Visit Bilderbach’s Art Plaza from 5-7 pm to get your face painted! Rhonda Johnson and Vickie Bollinger will be painting faces for the Trick-Art-Treat for $1/face.

Photography by Dr. Joel Ray and drawings by Jeanie Eddleman will be on display. New drawings and sandstone coasters are available. We can also personalize items with YOUR favorite photos. Catapult: Creative House, 612 Broadway Street

Gallery: “Literary Innovation: A Juried National Exhibition Inspired by William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway” will be on display.

Student Studios: “The First of All Pleasures is Illusion” will be on display, featuring the work of eleven Southeast Missouri State University Art Department student artists. Through object and idea the exhibition creates a dialog investigating the confluence of life and image. There will also be a Pop-Up Shop retail space.

The Crisp Museum, 518 South Fountain Street

“Estamos Aqui: We Are Here:” Featuring contemporary serigraphs by 40 artists who took an opportunity to learn a specialized silkscreen print technique from a collaborative Austin-based residency. Many of the artists are speaking from the Latino/Chicano perspective, and the resulting portfolio of prints expresses their celebrations, sorrows, challenges, popular culture and personal experiences.

Free Spirit Studio, 605 Broadway Street

The Indie House is your destination for fall fun. A Backyard Bash is the perfect way to kick off October! Apple Creek Winery will be here serving up their very best wines along with guest artists; Apple Creek Metal Works, Sunkissed Jewelry, and Brickhouse Soaps.

PLUS: Musicians Bill Bradley and Ken Keller will be performing live from 6:00 - 9:00 pm!

River Campus Art Gallery, 518 South Fountain Street - Seminary Building Rm 106

“The Wanderlust Matrix: A Long-Distance Relationship” will have an opening reception October 7 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. A themed lithography portfolio curated by Southeast alum, Candice Corgan. The exhibit includes the work of 20 artists, all printed by Corgan while completing the Master Printer program at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico.
