Past: "Gifts of Oneself: Art & Writings by James H. Hamby" book launch and reception

Join us on Friday, November 4, 2016 from 5 – 9 p.m. in the Program Lounge on the 3rd floor of the University Center at Southeast Missouri State University for the book launch and reception of "Gifts of Oneself: Art and Writings by James H. Hamby" compiled with introduction by Roy Dawson and afterword by Kim Hamby Loper and Kip Hamby. The book is edited by Roxanne Dunn, head of the University’s Special Collections and Archives, and Robert W. Hamblin, professor emeritus of English at Southeast, and is published by Southeast Missouri State University Press. The event is free and open to the public.

This book contains selected artwork and writings by Jim Hamby, Southeast football coach turned beloved philosophy professor, who died in 1986. Hamby created around 300 beautiful, color drawings and watercolors of birds, and gave them away as gifts to friends and family.

There will be displays of the original artwork, along with commentary from Hamby’s friends and family throughout the evening. "Gifts of Oneself" will be available for purchase at the event or at www.semopress.com. Refreshments will be provided. Street parking is available on Normal and at Lot 1-22 (Visitor Parking Lot) at the intersection of Normal and Henderson.
