Past: Regional Juried Exhibition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – Friday, December 2 from 5 to 9 p.m., the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will host a reception for the 2016 Annual Regional Juried Exhibition. The show will be displayed until January 28, 2016 and will feature pieces by 27 regional artists.

The exhibition was developed to demonstrate the diversity of the five-state region and the artists who live here. Artists were encouraged to submit works that interpreted any aspect of the Southeast Missouri Region, as well as its bordering states. Accepted artists represent Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. The piece selected to be this year’s “Best of Show”, and the recipient of the $500 cash prize, will be unveiled at the reception on Friday evening. Second place, and three honorary awards, will also be named during the 6:00 pm ceremony.

The artwork for the 2016 Regional Juried Exhibition was selected by Madeleine Marie LeMieux, an artist and arts administrator. LeMieux received her BFA with an emphasis in Art History, Theory and Criticism from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007 and her MA in Visual Arts Administration from New York University in 2011. Select highlights of her career include: serving on NYC’s Department of Cultural Affairs’ Non-Performing Arts Selection Panel of experts in 2012 and 2013, developing Groundswell’s Youth Media Council, and helping to establish Brooklyn's first art-jewelry maker space, Brooklyn Metal Works.

In 2014, LeMieux founded Resident Arts, a professional development organization for artists in Mid-Missouri. This year, LeMieux was honored as one of the Columbia Business Times' 20 Under 40 successful business people. She currently serves as the Treasurer of the Board for the North Village Arts District, and sits on the Columbia Visioning Commission.

The River Heritage Quilters Guild will be displaying works in the Community Wall in our back workshop room.

The Visual Arts Cooperative will also debut new works in the Visual Arts Cooperative Gallery, with an additional display of original artwork miniatures, priced below $75. Featured window exhibitors are Barbi Myres and Nikki Heuring.
