Past: Kent Library Athenaeum Series" Native pollinator/butterfly perennials of Southeast Missouri

Kent Library, Southeast Missouri State University

Maintaining about one-third of the food supply for people requires a thriving population of pollinators, which include butterflies. Our natural pollinators and butterflies require a thriving population of native perennials and other native plants to complete their life cycle. Completed and on-going research studies at Southeast Missouri State University’s Charles Nemanick Alternative Agriculture Garden are helping to identify native perennial plants that are relatively easy to establish and maintain. The selection of plants maintains a continuous supply of nectar for pollinators and butterflies during the months when they are active. Enjoy photos of flowers, butterflies, and bees, and learn about how these plants are critical to our food supply.

This event will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at noon in Kent Library. Dr. Sven Svenson, Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture, will be presenting. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
