Past: Guest Artist: Lynn Lancaster

Sikeston Depot Museum

Guest Artist: Lynn Lancaster - July 6 through August 29, 2017. Lynn Lancaster is a native of Southeast Missouri, living in Sikeston, Missouri. Rural life is the focus of many of his paintings. He likes his paintings to tell a story or evoke a memory. He needs to have an emotional attachment to the subject and he considers his painting a success if he captures the feeling of the moment. Cotton fields are one of his favorite subjects as well as old barns and trucks. He works primarily in oils and watercolor. He also does pen and inks of historical structures, primarily in the Sikeston area.

Lynn first studied with Beth Huber, who taught him the building blocks of a good painting. "She taught me to be myself and develop my own style of painting." He also studied with Billyo O'Donnell, plein aire artist and author, as well as workshops with Roger Bansemer and Don Sahli. His greatest knowledge has been through my studies with Cleda Curtis. She has taught him the concepts of design, value, color temperature, and color harmony. He currently tries to work in plein aire where one can absorb the environment surrounding the subject.

There will be a reception on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sikeston Depot Museum. Admission is free, however donations are greatly appreciated.
