Past: Solar Eclipse Day

Bollinger County Museum of Natural History

A total solar eclipse is a rare and wondrous natural phenomenon. How can you be prepared to experience and enjoy the upcoming event? Join us at the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History, on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 2 p.m. Dr. Peggy Hill, professor of physics at Southeast Missouri State University, will discuss why this eclipse is so special, what causes eclipses, and how you can safely observe the eclipse. The informational presentation will be followed by a number of activities the whole family can enjoy, such as creating solar art, building a pinhole viewer, and putting together a UV bead bracelet.

Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Regular admission to the museum will apply.

Museum Admission: Adults $5 and 17 years and under $2

All special event activities are included in the regular museum admission.

Dr. Hill's solar presentation and activities will take place at 2 p.m.

The museum will be open noon to 4:30 p.m.

The Bollinger County Museum of Natural History, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, is located at 207 Mayfield Drive in Marble Hill. The museum is housed in the Art & Science building of the former Will Mayfield College. This architectural treasure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visit the museum for the exciting natural history exhibits and savor the historical architecture.
