Past: 'Obstacles as Inspiration' Feb. 14 at Catapult

Catapult Creative House

“Obstacles of Inspiration” will be the focus of the first installment of the spring 2019 season of Catapult Creative House’s “After Hours: Conversation on Art and Culture” on Feb. 14. The lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the classroom at Catapult, 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau. This event is free and open to the public.

Rubén Gerding, assistant professor of dance at Southeast, will discuss how people might imagine that a creative process with no limitations and no obstacles will produce the best art. However, the unexpected limitations and the friction in the process often lead to new discoveries and avenues of exploration in our work. Gerding will chronicle this journey in one of his own dance works, “Life in a Glass House,” and invite others to embrace the obstacles they encounter as they create.

“After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture” take place at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Catapult Creative House. The theme for this semester is “The Artist’s Studio: The Process of Creation.” For more information, contact Dr. Joni Hand at jhand@semo.edu.
