William Faulkner’s trip to Japan in 1955 was an important Cold War moment of reconciliation between the two nations and helped create an affinity between the Japanese people and the Nobel Prize-winning author. Working with the William Faulkner Society of Japan, Dr. Chris Rieger, director of Southeast’s Center for Faulkner Studies, traveled to Japan in the summer of 2018 to present a series of lectures on Faulkner and other writers. His presentation will discuss Faulkner’s trip to Japan, as well as his own, including a comparison of Faulkner and Japanese writer Yukio Mishima. This event is free, open to the public, and will be held on the main floor of Kent Library.
