Past: United States Colored Troops Statue Dedication
Ivers Square
On June 8, 2019, Old Town Cape will present to the City of Cape Girardeau a statue erected in Ivers Square honoring African Americans who enlisted in the U.S. Colored Troops during the Civil War. The square, formerly known as Courthouse Park was renamed for Harriet and James Ives in 2017. The square was the place James Ivers and other slaves enlisted in the Union Army.
