Past: Cape Girardeau Civil War Roundtable meeting
Hanover Lutheran Church
The speaker will be roundtable member Randy Black. He will talk about the diary of Franklin Black, a private in the 125th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry and one of Randy Black's ancestors. The talk will focus on the personal side of being in the Civil War — letters from home, gifts from friends, battlefield visits from family and losing friends in battle. Franklin Black fought in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia. He was killed at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. Learn how the diary got home, how it was found 100 years later, and how Franklin Black's body made it back to the family cemetery.
