Past: Dinner & a Movie: Tribute to Roy James of Zalma, Missouri

Wednesday, May 10th, there will be a Roy James dinner and a movie along with an exhibit of his art and illustrations. The special movie presentation of Overland Stage Raiders features local actor and artist Roy James. He was born on May 10th in 1889 in Zalma, Missouri. Mr. James worked as an illustrator and artist for the St. Louis Star Newspaper before moving to California where he acted in three films.

Overland Stage Raiders was released in 1938 and was one of John Wayne's first films. As an artist Mr. James worked as a political cartoonist as well as painting in watercolors and oils. The Roy James art exhibit and movie presentation are free and open to the public at 7 pm following the fundraiser dinner.

The event will take place in the historic 1909 two story Chapel on the first floor of the old Will Mayfield College. The dinner benefits the Mayfield Cultural Center's programs and operations and begins at 6 pm, it is $25 and includes drinks, meal, dessert and VIP movie seating.
