Past: Words on Fire Poetry Slam

Muy Bueno Mexican Restaurant

A literary and performative genre similar to Spoken Word, Slam Poetry weaves words and high-energy performance into a powerful message. Words on Fire slams are competitions in which up to 10 poets or groups compete for bragging rights and sometimes prizes.

Registration begins at 7 p.m. and the 1st round will start at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Both individual and group entries are welcome. Typically, there are 3 rounds. Poets/groups must read a different original poem, lasting no longer than 3 minutes, for each round. The best poems are well-crafted and delivered with energy, passion and personal style.

Any local businesses wishing to donate prizes of merchandise or gift certificates should contact Mary Christy by email: mchristy@semo.edu.
