Past: Southeast Hosting ‘Southeast Startup Showcase’ Panel Discussion Oct. 22

Southeast Missouri State University will host a “Southeast Startup Showcase” panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 as the campus celebrates Women in Entrepreneurship Week (WEW) 2019. The discussion will feature local community women who have started or who are in the process of starting their own businesses. The panelists will share their experiences of starting and running their own companies and offer advice and tips.

Panelists will include:

Genevive Sosuh, Southeast senior business administration major who makes and sells textiles and clothes from her home country and culture in Ghana; Carly Bowles, certified public accountant and owner of SEMO CPA Company, an accounting firm in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Chef Lisa Essmyer, Southeast instructor of hospitality management and owner of Fūdio, a cooking studio and catering company in Cape Girardeau; Laurie Everett, owner of Annie Laurie’s, Mother Earth, Indie House and Downtown Guesthouse in Cape Girardeau; and Sheila Hottel and Megon Rousseau, co-owners and founders of Roots Spa and Salon in Cape Girardeau.

The event will be held in Glenn Auditorium of Robert A. Dempster Hall and is sponsored by the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, the Harrison College of Business and Computing, and the SEMO Women in Economic student organization. Refreshments will be provided by Southeast hospitality students through Catapult Creative House.

WEW is observed around the world and across the United States Oct.19-26 and is dedicated to nurturing, inspiring and energizing female founders. WEW started in 2014 at Montclair State University.

Southeast’s WEW 2019 planning committee includes Sonia Rucker, assistant to the president for equity and diversity and dean of students; Dr. Steven Stovall, assistant professor of management; Dr. Tamela  Randolph, dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Dr. Dana Schwieger, professor of management information systems (MIS); Dr. Erin Rae Fluegge, associate professor of management and moderator of the panel discussion; Dr. Natallia Gray, associate professor of economics; and Leah Powers, operations manager of Southeast’s Catapult Creative House in downtown Cape Girardeau.
