Catapult Creative House

“Hope Chest,” an exhibition of works by Christine Adame, Denise McAllister and Erin Tucker, new faculty in the Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State University, will be on display April 2 through 30 at Southeast’s Catapult Creative House. An opening reception for “Hope Chest” will held Friday, April 2 from 5-9 p.m. Additionally, an artists’ talk will be held April 1 at 6 p.m. in the gallery at Catapult Creative House. Their talk will also be available via Zoom.

The exhibition, opening reception and artist’s talk are free and open to the public. Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.

Adame is an instructor of commercial multimedia and design and foundations from Arlington, Texas. Her work sifts through heritage and the role it plays in the journey of the self. She composes visual archives of personal transitions, touching on familial storytelling, identity and resilience. Her work manifests as an intersection of drawing, text and layered technologies.

McAllister is assistant professor of interior design. She is a National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)-certified interior designer and construction manager with a demonstrated history working in the design and construction industry. She is currently conducting research on utilizing architectural visualization technology to communicate home modifications for aging in place as recommended by construction professionals, healthcare professionals and design professionals.

Tucker is an instructor and technician from central Illinois. Her studio work explores and visualizes personal experiences, identity, memory and humanity through clothing and domestic objects. She explores labor, the ordinary and wear and tear. She hopes to connect the viewer to themselves in her works by giving them space in her quiet constructions to remember, reflect and imagine.

Connecting over the idea of what hope and home means to them, Adame, McAllister and Tucker found overlaps in their practices and thinking that are shared in this exhibition.

Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast’s Department of Art and Design students’ studios and gallery. Visitors are also invited to browse the merchandise in the Shoppe, which features student work and local business products.

Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
