Annual Juried Student Exhibition at Crisp Museum

The Annual Juried Student Exhibition for Southeast Missouri State University is on display at Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum from March 26 to April 21, 2024.

The public is invited to meet the selected artists during the reception that will be held April 5, 4-8 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. in Crisp Museum.

The Department of Art and Design students at Southeast Missouri State University show off their creative talent during this annual exhibit. Some artworks on display will be available for purchase. Categories of art include drawing, printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, fibers, and digital media.

This year’s juror is artist and designer Benjamin Pierce. He earned his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Illustration and Graphic Design at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

“My paintings are the resolutions of my daydreams. These images are hodgepodges of people I’ve seen on the street and the background stories," Pierce says. “His surrealist compositions invoke wonder and connectivity, and they have a deep resonance for questions left unanswered and perhaps even unspoken,” stated Emily Denlinger, Professor of Digital Arts, Photography, and New Media at Southeast Missouri State University.

In conjunction with the student exhibition, the professional juror writes an overall statement for the body of works they have selected for inclusion.

Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
