Quilts & Stitchery: Warmth Art Design
Monday, June 16, 2025, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum
Quilts and Stitchery: Warmth, Art, Design will be exhibited June 1-23, 2025 at Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum
Quilts, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, and more will be a feast for your eyes through fabric, fibers, and dye. Over a hundred items will be on view. Plan to browse slowly to take it all in.
Featured in this exhibit will be: Leah Farrar-White, who's quilts are not only nice on the front, but also very interesting on the back; Bart Williams, a quilt collector, is showing 14 hand-stitched and much loved, antique quilts; and Jaime Mayfield's modern circular knitting machine, Tru-Knit, capable of knitting socks, hats, mittens as well as many other items, that is manufactured in Missouri.
Many of the quilts are the individuals' own creations. Some follow patterns and modify the color or value placement, which can give them a whole different look. Fabric piecing, thread color, stitches and finishing combinations can be endless.
The needle work pieces made with applique, cross stitch, crewel, beading, and ribbon can put you in awe once you see how tedious it must have been to make. Ribbon roses, samplers, stump work and book making.
