
The Shawneetown, MO, Early Woolen Mill: a Presentation by Ken Mirly

A Regional History Presentation: Mark your calendars for Sunday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society's History Center at 102 S. High St., Jackson, MO (573) 204-4240. We will be hosting speaker, Ken Mirly. Mirly has completed extensive research on the Shawneetown, Missouri, Woolen Mill just after the Civil War. The woolen mill plan was a part of the original Shawneetown lay-out. Mirly will explore the roots of the woolen mill's establishment, including biographical stories on the twelve men who lead the mill over time. He will explain the make-up of the regional economy that supported the mill operations, and the demise of the mill after 23 years of operation.
Mirly was raised in Cape Girardeau County and is a Jackson High School graduate. He is currently retired from a successful career in aeronautical engineering. While at Boeing, Mirly's roles included, a strategic planner, market analyst, airplane salesman, international business director, and government relations director in Washington, D.C.—including many administrative trips to Europe. Mirly also owned construction companies. In retirement, Mirly enjoys in-depth historic research and family genealogical research traveling to southeast Missouri with his wife, Angie for much of his research.
There will be a brief Historical Society meeting following the presentation with refreshments provided. Free and open to the public.
