Cape Girardeau Public Library
This free event features an action-packed afternoon of games, food, and entertainment all designed to bring the community together and celebrate America’s 250th birthday, our Carnegie library legacy, and the start to an action-packed summer of reading and programs!
Event highlights include:
Live Entertainment: Performances include a multi-hula hooper, stilt walker, and the Big Muddy Brass Quintet!
Community Painting: Participate in painting a panel for this historic mural with artists, Barb Bailey and Aaron Horrell
Declaration Conversations: A special, interactive presentation all about the Declaration of Independence
Games & Contests: We’ll hold a variety of contests on the half hour, groups will be divided by youth and adults, and winners will receive prizes!
Food & Drinks: Free hotdogs, burgers, chips, and water will be available, while supplies last.
Free Giveaways: Participants will receive a t-shirt and pocket Declaration of Independence, while supplies last.
This event is made possible thanks to a gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York, the foundation established by Andrew Carnegie. The award is part of Carnegie Libraries 250, a special initiative celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and honoring the roughly 1,280 Carnegie Libraries still serving their communities across the United States.
Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the season, make new connections, and enjoy a fun day outdoors with your community. We look forward to seeing you at the event, and throughout the summer! (all ages)
