Past: Symposium on the Shared History of Germans and African Americans in Missouri

This open forum will address the key role German immigrants played in the abolition of slavery in Missouri. Prominent scholars, historians and a playwright will share this amazing history with a panel discussion. (Dr. Gary Kremer, Executive Director of the State Historical Society pictured) There will also be music from the African American and German community followed by a live excerpt of the highly acclaimed play AN AMAZING STORY: GERMAN ABOLITIONISTS OF MISSOURI.
Those attending are invited to an open house at 10:00 a.m. at the Deutschheim State Historical Site where they can see the 1845 printing press and headquarters of the Hermanner Wochenblatt, the most influential abolitionist German newspaper in Missouri.
