Past: Castor River Float

Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center

Registration period: August 19 - October 13

Date: Saturday, October 15, 2022 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

The Castor River is a minor stream that runs through the famous “pink rocks” near Fredricktown all the way to the lowlands of the Mississippi plains. During that trip it crosses beautiful hills passing eagles, mink, and smallmouth bass. Join us for a trip down this river-less-traveled for a wonderful day of adventure. The six mile float (approx. 5 hours) requires a moderate level of fitness, as shallow gravel bars requires paddlers to enter and exit the kayak frequently. Skilled guides will provide instruction and no previous experience is necessary. Kayaks (rated to 275lbs), life jackets, paddles, and duffle sized dry bags will be provided. Participants will meet at the Cape Girardeau Nature Center and either ride with us or drive separately to the put in location (1 hour). Participants will receive a welcome email with detailed instructions and packing list prior to the trip. Please email the instructor with any questions you have about this exciting program. If you are participating in Cape Nature Center’s “A Year in Color” this program earns a blue aquatics bead.
